Not My Monkey, Still My Circus: Kid Management for Faire Entertainers

Let’s face it: sometimes, the toughest hecklers aren’t drunk adults… they’re unsupervised children. If you’ve ever had a small human climb your stage, interrupt your punchline, or throw a rock at your props (yep, it’s happened), you’re not alone and you’re not powerless. In this workshop, we’ll share practical, respectful, and effective strategies to handle unruly kids while staying in character, keeping your cool, and keeping the show moving. Learn how to:

-Redirect disruptive energy without escalating conflict
-Use humor and authority to regain control of your space
-Read kid behavior quickly and spot issues before they explode
-Navigate tricky dynamics when the parents are right there… and doing nothing
-Set gentle but firm boundaries while staying true to your persona

You’ll walk away with a toolkit of phrases, body language cues, and backup plans that work across a range of performance styles; whether you’re a fire juggler, a singing wench, or a fortune-telling goose. The final portion of the class includes real world scenario workshopping with each attendee so you can develop responses that feel authentic to your character and show style.

This workshop is ideal for: Street and stage performers of all types who want to feel more confident and in control when the kids go wild and the parents go missing. Class size limited to 7 participants, roughly a 2 hour workshop, $75 per person.
